Government Regulation No. 42 of 2024 on the Implementation of Halal Product Assurance

Summary

PP 42/2024 is the current implementing regulation of the Halal Product Assurance Law (Law 33/2014). It governs how BPJPH (the Halal Product Assurance Agency) runs halal assurance, cooperation with ministries and agencies, Halal Inspection Bodies (LPH) and halal auditors, halal supervisors, locations and equipment for halal processes, certification procedures, the halal label, supervision, and the phasing of the obligation to be halal certified.

It revokes PP 39/2021 and has applied since 17 October 2024. The phased halal obligations for different product types, including the October 2026 deadline, refer to this regulation. Because the underlying Law covers products entering Indonesia as well as those made and sold locally, importers and manufacturers alike should confirm which phase applies to each of their products.
